A 14-year-old female juvenile has been charged with a string of robberies that took place on Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) property last month, Chicago Police reported. Members of the Bureau of Counter-Terrorism Mass Transit Team arrested the offender on June 7, 2024, near E. Roosevelt Rd. She is facing charges of four felony counts of robbery and four counts of aggravated battery against a transit employee.
The series of incidents, identified by the police, began on May 6 when the accused, along with accomplices, allegedly battered and robbed a 23-year-old woman on W. Cermak Rd. In a similar pattern of violence, authorities claim that the group continued their spree, with victims on W. 95th St. and again on W. Cermak Rd. on May 10. Later the same day, a 29-year-old man was another victim, attacked and robbed by the group, this time on W. 79th St. With the transit employees who were targeted while simply performing their duties, the juvenile's alleged acts have raised significant concern, highlighting the vulnerability of everyday workers in the face of such criminality.
Following her arrest, the offender was charged and placed into custody while investigations into the robberies remain ongoing. The police have yet to release further details about the case or the identities of any possible accomplices. The community, shocked by the intensity of these crimes woven into the fabric of their daily commutes, awaits further developments.
According to the police statement, the crimes took place across various districts, marking a pattern of behavior that preyed on individuals in transit. The juvenile's participation in multiple aggressive encounters has resulted in serious charges, reflective of the nature of the crimes. The CTA has been working to increase safety measures and awareness among riders in light of these events. They encouraged the public, caught in the flux of coming and going, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. With the public's help, authorities hope to deter further incidents and ensure justice for the affected victims.
