Atlantans faced with a new hiccup on West Peachtree Street NE might have to adjust their regular commuting paths. According to the City of Atlanta's Department of Transportation, a critical segment of the road stretching from just beyond 10th Street NE to 12th Street NE has been blocked off. This closure comes in response to a water main repair that is urgently being addressed by the Department of Watershed Management crews at the intersection of 11th Street NE and West Peachtree Street NE.
As the work progresses, expect to encounter restricted access around the bike lane and sidewalk on the east side of the roadway. Pedestrians are to note that the west side sidewalk after 12th Street NE remains open for their use. In order to safely conduct these repairs, city officials are asking the public, including pedestrians, e-scooter riders, and bicyclists, to refrain from trying to navigate through the construction zone.
The urgency of the situation can't be understated, as the DWM endeavors to re-establish essential water services to the local community. The detours put in place are designed to minimize the impact on daily transit and ensure that the disruption is as short-lived as feasible. For those heading north on West Peachtree St NW and those attempting to turn onto West Peachtree St from 10th St in either direction, specific detour routes have been established and can be found detailed in the recent traffic advisory published by City of Atlanta's Department of Transportation.
For additional guidance or to air your concerns about the closure and associated detours, City of Atlanta's Department of Transportation has made themselves available via email at [email protected]. Commuters and residents alike are encouraged to keep informed on any updates that might affect their travel within the area or, just as importantly, their access to city water services. In the meantime, everyone is being urged to abide carefully by the temporary traffic changes put forth to ensure a speedy and undisturbed completion of the repair work.
