A recent study by WalletHub has placed Atlanta in the esteemed ranks of top cities for staycations, making it unnecessary for residents to look far for relaxation and entertainment.
The study, which involved an analysis of over 180 American cities, crunched the numbers based on 42 key metrics to assess which locales are best suited for a stay-at-home vacation, these metrics included the number of recreational activities like hiking trails, tennis courts, along with the availability of ice cream and frozen yogurt shops per capita, in which Atlanta excelled by being ranked No. 1.
As FOX 5 Atlanta reports, the city took an impressive 8th place overall in the nation for staycation spots, even outperforming other cities in terms of parks and swimming pools availability. Not to be bested in the culinary and leisure department, Atlanta also shone brightly with its food and entertainment options, which was its highest ranking dimension, coming in at No. 8.
Further corroborating Atlanta's reputation as a fine city for those opting to stay in, rather than jet out, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution highlighted more metrics from the WalletHub study, noting that Atlanta ranked fourth in the number of swimming pools per capita and third for tennis courts per capita, while also mentioning the Peach City secured spot No. 11 overall, with a specific score of 52.65.
While Atlanta's staycation allure is certainly strong, the same study suggests that other Georgia cities like Augusta and Columbus didn't fare as well, trailing behind considerably in the rankings. Nonetheless, those residing in or near Atlanta have abundant access to a multitude of restful and entertaining staycation options.
