The City of Atlanta's Department of Transportation has issued a traffic advisory for a portion of S.R. 139/Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive SW due to a water main break that requires immediate repair. As a result, one northbound lane from Fairburn Road SW to Adamsville Drive SW is currently shut down. Motorists are advised that two southbound lanes will remain operational, with one repurposed to accommodate northbound traffic, according to an update from the transportation department.
The closure was swiftly implemented following the discovery of damage near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW and Bakers Ferry Road SW, which was linked to a contractor's oversight. The flow of traffic is to be expected to continue to be disrupted until the necessary repairs are completed and the water recedes. The timeline for this process, however, remains as of yet unannounced.
Local residents and those frequenting this stretch of road are being urged to plan ahead for delays or to seek alternative routes until the work is finished. The Department of Transportation has committed to providing updates as the condition evolves.
Inquiries and any concerns from the public regarding the road closure or the associated works can be directed to the Atlanta Department of Transportation via their official email at [email protected]. Commuters are encouraged to reach out should they need any further information to more seamlessly navigate around the ongoing construction site.
