The Austin community was met with sobering news as the Austin Police Department investigates the city's 27th homicide of the year. On June 21, APD officers discovered the body of Alyssa Ann Rivera, in what is now being treated as a murder case.
A call received at approximately 4:06 p.m. led officers to the 2600 block of Metcalfe Road, an area that found itself the backdrop to this latest tragedy. The scene, an abandoned house, harbored the lifeless body of Ms. Rivera, a Hispanic female born on December 1, 1989. She was pronounced deceased shortly after the officers' arrival, according to official reports.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists promptly took to the scene to gather evidence and conduct interviews, though details about potential suspects have not been released. The Austin Police Department is calling for anyone with information to come forward, stressing that tips can be submitted anonymously to the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
To aid in the ongoing investigation, community members are encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or to provide information through austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. There is a possibility of a reward of up to $1,000 for information that directly leads to an arrest, as the search for justice perseveres. The APD maintains that pulling together the collective conscience and efforts of the Austin community remains crucial in these trying times.
