Authorities Seek Suspect in Hit-and-Run Crash on I-680 in Pleasant Hill, Woman Injured, Dog SafeSource: CHP - Contra Costa

A brutal crash on I-680 Southbound near Pleasant Hill has left a woman with major injuries, and local authorities are currently on the hunt for the suspect involved in the hit-and-run incident. CHP Contra Costa has reported that the collision occurred on Sunday, June 9th, at approximately 2:07 pm. The incident involved an unknown male driver who was behind the wheel of a dark gray Acura TL, which was seen traveling at high speeds and weaving dangerously before striking a black BMW 320i.

The BMW, driven by a female adult and accompanied by a canine, was struck by the Acura after the latter’s driver lost control. The woman sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to the hospital, where she is expected to fortunately recover. The canine passenger managed to escape unscathed and was briefly cared for at a local animal shelter before reuniting with family members. After the crash, the Acura driver was spotted fleeing the scene on foot, and authorities have been trying to relentlessly track him down since.

Investigators are actively piecing together the events that led to this major collision. It has been noted that the driver of the BMW was securely buckled up at the time of the accident. However, it remains unclear if the Acura's driver had worn a seatbelt or if the incident was influenced by driving under the influence. As this case unfolds, the condition of the Acura driver during the crash is among several details yet to be uncovered.

The incident has sparked a call for witnesses who might have seen the collision, the erratic behavior of the Acura before the crash, or who may possess valuable dash-cam footage to come forward. Any information could be key in tracking down the individual responsible for the accident. "If anyone witnessed the crash, the events leading up to, or has information/dash-cam footage of the crash/suspect, please contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez," implores CHP Contra Costa.
