The Blaine Planning Commission has announced a public hearing for Case: 24-0037, which could reclassify the land uses of several properties in the area. Slated for the hearing are properties at 12565 and 12535 Zest Street NE, alongside 12592 Lexington Avenue NE. The city aims to amend the comprehensive plan and adjust the land use designation from High-Density Residential (HDR) to a combination of Medium Density Residential and Community Commercial (MDR/CC), and make a similar alteration to the current Medium Density Residential (MDR) zoning.
According to a public notice released by the City of Blaine, no concrete development projects are proposed at this juncture. However, the reclassification could pave the way for future projects that align with the city's commercial and residential growth objectives. Residents interested in the implications of these proposed changes for their community can find more details through the city's official channels.
The public hearing is scheduled to occur at the Blaine City Hall Council Chambers on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. The Planning Commission, which serves as an advisory body to the City Council, will be there to accept comments from the public and ultimately recommend action to the City Council who will then have the final decision on the application at a later date.
For those who wish to take part in the decision-making process, the city has detailed how residents can get involved. The Planning Department is reachable at 763-785-6180 or via an email to [email protected]. Additionally, written comments are welcomed and can be submitted to the department either by email or post – but must be received by noon on Monday to be considered by the Planning Commission. To watch the proceedings unfold live, tune into the city's Comcast channel 799 or live stream the meeting at BlaineMN.gov/Video, where recordings will also be available for playback.
