Authorities in Boston have apprehended a 23-year-old man following a 911 call that alerted police to a person with a gun potentially involved in a street fight, according to the Boston Police Department. Per the official report, the suspect, identified as Juarez Sanders Jr. of Boston, was detained last Wednesday night after a brief pursuit by officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF), a joint initiative of Boston Police Officers and Massachusetts State Troopers.
The incident unfolded around 9:54 PM when officers in the Harrison Ave. and Massachusetts Ave. vicinity responded to dispatches of a suspicious individual seen fleeing from a skirmish at 16 Hammond St., the individual apparently clutching their waistband, a gesture that is often interpreted as indicating the presence of a concealed weapon, the officers soon spotted a person fitting the description walking down Massachusetts Ave. and wearing a fannypack across his body, alerting them to pursue further.
Upon noticing the patrol vehicles, Sanders Jr. removed the fannypack and held it, attempting to distance himself from the officers when they exited their cruisers, Sanders Jr. abruptly threw the fannypack toward them, it was upon retrieving the fannypack that a loaded silver Derringer with a pearl handle and a single .22 cal. round was discovered inside.
The subsequent arrest of Sanders Jr. was made without further incident, and the BPD's announcement indicates that he faces several charges including Carrying a Loaded Firearm While Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card his arraignment is expected to take place in Boston Municipal Court.
