
Gunfire erupted in Boston Common late Monday night, leading to the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of a suspect, authorities have reported. According to an official statement from the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol near Tremont St. and Winter St. when they heard shots fired at approximately 10:05 PM. As chaos ensued, with spectators fleeing in various directions, officers intervened to investigate the disturbing events unfolding.
Upon entering the Common, the officers spotted an a entity they deemed suspicious—a man later identified as Dana Loder, 30, of Lynnfield—clutching his waistband and attempting to flee the area. Despite a command to halt, Loder allegedly initiated a foot chase, during which he is accused of discarding a firearm. Loder was eventually apprehended near 131 Tremont St, according to information provided by Boston Police Department.
The incident further escalated when officers discovered a victim with life-threatening gunshot wounds within the public park. The victim was quickly tended to by Boston EMS and taken to a local hospital, remaining in critical condition. With the Homicide Unit now at the hem of the investigation, the circumstances that led to the shooting are under rigorous scrutiny. Loder is facing multiple charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License (2nd Offense), being set to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
