Earlier today, officers from the Boston Police Department's Anti-Crime Unit in District B-3 made an arrest, seizing a reported stolen gun off the streets. According to an official report, Nyjulius Johnson, a 29-year-old Boston resident, is now facing several firearm charges. The incident occurred around 1:50 AM near Norfolk and Morton Street in Mattapan and was triggered by a motor vehicle sporting a failed inspection sticker.
As detailed in the BPD report, officers pulled over the vehicle. Upon requesting identification from the passenger, who was not wearing his seatbelt, they purportedly noted suspicious behavior. This led them to discover a concealed Glock 43 with five rounds in the magazine during a pat frisk. Officers later learned that the weapon had been stolen from Georgia.
Johnson's charges include Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Firearm Violation with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime, and Receiving Stolen Property over $1,200. His anticipated arraignment is set to take place at Dorchester District Court.
The recovery of this firearm highlights ongoing efforts by the Boston police to address gun violence and illegal weapon possession within city limits. Such interventions are crucial as they often prevent potential escalation to more serious incidents. Johnson's arrest serves as yet another instance where routine traffic enforcement has yielded significant results in the context of public safety.
