As the Fourth of July approaches, Broward County is preparing to observe the national holiday with both celebration and a temporary pause on many of its services. In a statement released on June 24, Broward County officials announced various closures and schedule adjustments in anticipation of Independence Day, according to information obtained by Broward County's official press release.

Governmental offices across the county will shut their doors on Thursday, July 4, giving employees the chance to join in the festivities. While the 311 Call Center will take a day off, the Homeless Helpline is set to provide after-hours support from 10 PM to quickly help 2 AM for those in need. Residents should mark 954-563-4357 for assistance during these hours. In contrast, culture vultures can still flock to the NSU-Alvin Sherman Library, which will keep its doors open from 7 AM to 11 PM, even as all other branches of the Broward County Library take a breather, as per Broward County's press release.

Regional and neighborhood parks will welcome visitors without interruption, aside from a few exceptions including Deerfield Island Park and Secret Woods Nature Center. This comes as part of a waived regional park holiday gate fee by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, highlighting July as Park and Recreation Month. However, traditional Summer Recreation Programs set in neighborhood parks will be put on hold for the day.

Those relying on public transportation should note that Broward County Transit is to operate on a Sunday holiday service schedule. The Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach, however, will close its doors for the day. The airport is going nowhere, though—Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport staff will continue to answer calls and provide information 24/7 at 954-359-6100, with terminals and facilities operating on their regular schedules. Adjusting to the holiday spirit, Port Everglades administrative offices will not open, yet marine services will continue unimpeded, maintaining their standard levels round-the-clock.

For urgent matters involving animals, Broward County Animal Care emphasizes that only emergency situations, such as animal attacks or bites, should prompt calls to 911 on the holiday. For more routine inquiries, the public can contact the center the following Tuesday from 8 AM at 954-359-1313. Furthermore, the Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services' administrative offices will be closed, but they assure the community that all critical family and professional services will remain reachable 24/7.

Regarding healthcare services, the Broward Addiction Recovery Center will also adjust its operations, requiring appointments for all services, including detoxification, but affirming that admissions will stay open during the holiday. Residential services will continue without visitation, while administrative and outpatient offices will be closed.

And for those in need of emergency support, the Nancy J. Cotterman Center is ready to operate and accept referrals for the Crisis Unit and the Child Protection Team on a 24-hour basis. Emergency intakes should call 954-357-5778, while non-intake emergencies have a dedicated 24-hour Helpline at 954-761-7273 (954-761-RAPE) or TTY 954-765-4195 to turn to.

On a more mundane note, waste management will see no changes, as garbage, bulk, and recycling will be collected as regularly scheduled within the Broward Municipal Services District. Residents of other areas should check with their city or hauler for any potential shifts in service. Those with plans to discard larger refuse will need to hold off until after the holiday, as the Broward County Landfill will not be operational.
