Chandler Welcomes Kevin Snyder as New Development Services Director Amid City GrowthSource: City of Chandler, Arizona

Chandler's cityscape is set to navigate upcoming changes with a new captain at the helm of its Development Services Department. As reported by the City of Chandler's official news center, City Manager Josh Wright recently tapped Kevin Snyder to take over as Development Services Director starting this August. Wright was quoted expressing his anticipation for Snyder's contribution: "I am excited to welcome Kevin as our new development services director to build upon the outstanding long-range planning and quality of development that shape our community."

With a career spanning three decades, Snyder brings a hefty portfolio of experience to the table - experience that will have to quickly adapt to the challenges unique to Chandler. His past gigs include stints in Oregon, Washington, and the Golden State, but it's his recent work in Indio, California, as Community Development Director that's most notable. There, Snyder has been responsible for a wide range of critical services – from safety to housing and neighborhoods. He told the City of Chandler's news outlet about his dedication to continue to push for the wise decisions that have given rise to Chandler's enviable quality of life.

Snyder's academic foundation lies in a master's degree in urban and regional planning from Portland State University and a bachelor's from Linfield University in Oregon. Additionally, his credentials include a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners. He'll be taking the reins from Derek Horn, who stepped back into retirement in July 2023, after leading the department's various facets - planning and zoning, engineering, and information systems.

Chandler cast a wide net to find their ideal candidate, with help from Mosaic Public Partners, an executive recruitment agency that sifted through more than 48 qualified hopefuls. As Snyder steps into his new role, he will oversee the city's impending General Plan update among various responsibilities. According to a statement from the city's news release, "His leadership of the Development Services Department will guide the city’s upcoming General Plan update and a variety of critical services provided for residents and the business community."
