Chicagoans are in for a wet and potentially hazardous start to June, with the weather promising showers, thunderstorms and patches of dense fog rolling into the region, according to the National Weather Service reports.
A flurry of rain showers will dominate the day, particularly after 11 a.m., and are expected to continue through the evening with "a few periods of locally moderate to heavy rainfall is possible through this afternoon," according to the Chicago's Weather Forecast. The downpours may lead to ponding on roadways, challenging the Saturday commute. Temperatures are hovering near the upper 60s, and the wind will begin to shift from a gentle breeze from the south-southeast this morning to the east by afternoon.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service reflects the unsettled conditions, flagging a "Limited Flooding Risk" and a "Limited Fog Risk" for the evening. Overnight, the city will be enshrouded in patchy fog, some of which "could become locally dense with visibility less than a mile in spots by morning."
As Sunday dawns, the fog is expected to lift before 10 a.m., giving way to a partly sunny sky and light northerly winds, with a high near 68 degrees. The early part of the week will see temperatures rising, reaching the low 80s by Tuesday with persistent chances for showers and thunderstorms. The unpredictability continues into the week, with a "Limited Thunderstorm Risk" extending from Monday through Wednesday, as cited in the forecast outlook.
For those with plans on Lake Michigan, the forecast is marginally better. The weather service alerts to a "Limited Fog Risk" for today and tonight, with conditions improving slightly for Sunday. Boaters should exercise caution, as visibility may be significantly reduced at times.

Looking ahead, the city will see a respite from the rain with a sunny Thursday and a mostly sunny Friday, posting high temperatures in the mid-70s. Until then, Chicagoans should remain prepared for a blend of summer's warmth tinged with spring's temperamental wetness, as noted in the four-day outlook shared on the National Weather Service Chicago's X account.
