
An individual has been formally charged in connection with the violent assault of a 71-year-old woman in Chicago, according to a report from the Chicago Police Department. The accused, Wilson Barreno, 25, faces serious charges including one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person over 60, and another count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The incident in question unfolded earlier this week, with Barreno arrested at 1:58 p.m. on June 5, 2024, near the 500 block of W. Tilden St shortly after he allegedly stabbed an elderly female multiple times in the 200 block of S. Canal St, the address falls within the 1st District's jurisdiction, it's this same area, a community frequently brushed with the cold touch of crime, where Barreno supposedly allowed his violent inclinations to culminate in a heinous act against a senior citizen, an individual who, by virtue of her age, stands among the most vulnerable. His apprehension resulted from investigative efforts which led to his positive identification as the assailant.
Barreno's charges remark not only the severity of the offense but also take into account the vulnerability of the victim due to her senior status. The official detention hearing is scheduled for today, June 7, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
