
Chicago Police Department announced the arrest of 37-year-old Cordale Nichols in connection with a fatal incident involving an incendiary device thrown into a South Green residence. According to the official release, the crime, which occurred in the early hours of June 15, sadly resulted in the death of a 54-year-old woman and injuries sustained by a 12-year-old girl.
Nichols, who hails from the 9000 block of S. University Ave., is facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated arson with bodily harm. An additional citation for Annual Gun Offender Registration has also been issued to Nichols, whose actions were followed by a swift police response, capturing him near S. Halsted Street less than an hour after the arson attack was carried out.
The detention hearing is scheduled for today, June 17, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. Details around the motivation and the circumstances leading to the incident have not been disclosed at this stage as the investigation is ongoing. Nichols, arrested on-site quickly after the event, was identified as the person responsible for the fire.
