Chicago authorities have detained a man in connection with two armed robberies that occurred in April. Demetrius Boens, 28, from the 1500 block of S. Kedvale Ave, faces two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, according to a Chicago Police Department release. The arrest and charges follow an investigation into two incidents, where victims were forcibly deprived of their belongings at gunpoint.
Boens was arrested on June 25, 2024, and was identified as "one of the offenders" involved in an April 25 robbery. In that incident, an 18-year-old was robbed around 12:04 p.m. on the 2200 block of S. Kedvale Ave. Within an hour, an 81-year-old man was also victimized in another armed robbery in the 4500 block of S. Kolin Ave. Both locations fall within the bounds of Chicago's 10th and 8th districts, respectively.
Details surrounding the detention hearing have been made public, with proceedings set for June 26, 2024, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The announcement made on the same date provides clear cause for Boens's apprehension but specifies that "No additional information is available at this time."
