A man accused of kidnapping and firing a weapon during an armed robbery faces multiple charges, according to Chicago police. William Watson, a 32-year-old from the 7200 block of S. Spaulding Ave., has been charged with one felony count each of kidnapping armed with a firearm, armed robbery with firearm discharge, aggravated discharge of a firearm at a vehicle or first aid personnel, and aggravated assault with a firearm discharge. Watson also faces one misdemeanor count for the unlawful possession of a firearm with an explosive bullet.
The Chicago Police Department stated that the suspect was apprehended on June 5, 2024, near the 2700 block of S California Ave. He was identified as the individual who allegedly forced a 29-year-old woman to the 8400 block of S. Blackstone Ave. at gunpoint and robbed her on January 6, 2024. During the incident, the suspect fired the gun but did not hit anyone.
Watson's detention hearing is scheduled for today at 2600 S. California Avenue. Further details surrounding the incident or the motive behind the alleged crimes have not been disclosed by the authorities.
