These incidents involved suspects who approach people on foot, particularly those with bags or purses, with one offender displaying a black semi-automatic handgun to demand the victim's possessions. The crimes in question spanned from late May to early June, materializing as a nightmarish tableau of urban insecurity.
The armed robberies have been pinned to specific dates and locations, including 4401 W Diversey Ave on May 20, as well as multiple occurrences on June 2 and June 3 on Kilbourn Ave and once again on Diversey Ave, additionally, a robbery took place on 2055 N Tripp Ave. These criminal acts unfold at various times, suggesting an unpredictable threat that hovers irrespective of the hour. Victims have encountered this peril in the clutch of darkness, and under the gaze of evening's light, the robbers show no deference to the time on the clock.
Descriptions of the suspects have been provided by authorities, detailing a group of two to three African American males whose ages range broadly from 12 to 30 years old and whose heights and builds vary significantly. A striking note in the offender profiles is that in four cases, one of the assailants has been seen in a wheelchair. This unusual detail marks the series of crimes with a distinctive signature, throwing the typical profile of a street robber into question and perhaps, altering the perception of potential threats among community members.
