The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert following a string of armed robberies in the 1st District that took place in the early hours of Monday, June 24, 2024. According to the report, three incidents were reported within minutes of each other, spanning across the 800 block of S. Clinton St., the 0-100 block of W. Congress Pkwy, and the 0-100 block of W. Polk St. Victims were confronted by several men demanding their possessions at the threat of force.
Authorities have described the suspects as a group of four to five African American males, estimated to be between 18-20 years old. They were last seen wearing dark-hooded sweatshirts, dark-colored pants, and dark ski masks, which obscured their identities. These individuals reportedly fled the scene in a waiting vehicle after each robbery.
Residents of the affected Beat areas, specifically 0113, 0123, and 0124, are urged to exercise heightened awareness. The police suggest that people should stay vigilant, limit distractions, and pay close attention to any suspicious behavior or vehicles. In the unfortunate event of an encounter with an assailant, the guidance is to remain calm and comply with demands to avoid escalation.
The community is advised to immediately contact 911 if they become victims or witnesses to such criminal activities. Chicago Police emphasize the importance of providing detailed descriptions of any offenders or vehicles involved, including license plate numbers, if possible, in light of these recent events. When approached by witnesses, asking them to remain on the scene or gather contact information can further aid in the investigation.
