Early Friday morning, fire crews were called to extinguish a blaze at the Cobb County Waste Management Center in Marietta, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The fire, reported to have started around 6:20 a.m., prompted police to temporarily restrict access to County Service Parkway while firefighters worked to control the flames.
Although the road has been reopened, the waste management center itself continues to remain closed. Aerial footage captured by SKYFOX 5 depicted fire trucks on the scene, with firefighters actively trying to quickly and accurately douse a pile of rubble engulfed in flames. Details on the cause of the fire have yet to be disclosed by officials.
Simultaneous coverage by 11Alive noted that before 6 a.m., the fire had already begun at the landfill located on the same parkway. The site, as detailed on the Cobb County government's website, is responsible for annually handling over 150,000 transactions which involves both private and municipal haulers, in addition to the general public.
