The community of DeKalb County is grappling with a tragic event that unfolded on Friday night, June 9, resulting in the deaths of two individuals in what police are investigating as a possible murder-suicide. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, DeKalb County police discovered the bodies of 37-year-old Christian Chestnut and 38-year-old Michael Durieux, a reserve sergeant with the Fort Valley Police Department, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
The series of events began around 7:20 p.m. when officers were dispatched to The Exchange at Decatur along Rainbow Drive. Upon arrival, they found Chestnut, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses recounted seeing another man, later identified as Sergeant Durieux, fleeing from the scene in a black sedan. According to reports by Channel 2 Action News, this vehicle was subsequently involved in a traffic crash on Candler Road.
Officials pronounced both Chestnut and Durieux dead on the scene. The second man, Durieux, was found after his car crash, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. DeKalb County officials have indicated that Chestnut was targeted by Durieux, although a clear motive has not been made public. "Witnesses told police that a second man, later identified as Durieux, had been involved and drove away in a black sedan," as reported by Channel 2 Action News.
