East Tennesseans can expect a mix of weather conditions this week, with possible thunderstorms and rain showers anticipated across the region. According to the National Weather Service in Knoxville, today will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 4 p.m., followed by more showers likely and a possible thunderstorm between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm. With a calm wind shifting to southwest in the afternoon.

Tonight, the odds of showers and thunderstorms continue mainly before midnight, under mostly cloudy skies, and a calming south wind. The National Weather Service reports that the current chance of precipitation is 60%, with new rainfall amounts expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, although, thunderstorms may result in higher amounts. Wednesday will not give much reprieve, with showers and thunderstorms expected after 11 a.m., and a high near 82 degrees. In addition, southwest winds of 5 to 15 mph could possess gusts as high as 20 mph, increasing the risk of storm-related hazards.

Moving into Wednesday night, the region will see showers and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a mixture of showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. The outlook through to Monday suggests a recurring chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the evenings and early mornings, with individual day chances varying but never dropping below a 30 percent probability.

The National Weather Service also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for parts of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia. "Scattered to numerous storms will move west to east across the area this afternoon into the early evening," the outlook detailed, with the potential for "a few stronger storms with locally gusty winds and heavy downpours." As the week progresses, the abundance of moisture, and the possibility for repetitive storms could escalate the risk for isolated flooding in low-lying and flood prone areas.
