Early Monday morning, a severe vehicle crash off State Route 905 in Otay Mesa resulted in one fatality. According to ABC 10News, California Highway Patrol officers rushed to the scene, located near Heritage Road, following the incident that occurred just past midnight and involved a car that had veered from the freeway and flipped over into a brush-laden area, a distressing span of hundreds of feet from the pavement.
The San Diego Fire Department, which extended its appreciation to the City of Chula Vista for their assistance, disclosed that the response effort necessitated a substantial dispatch, including 1 Rescue, 2 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Truck, 2 Engines, 1 Medic, 1 CV Medic, and 20 brave personnel, as outlined by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The scene's chaos reflected no need for a fire investigator or evacuations, underscoring the solitary nature of the tragedy yet the overwhelming response such accidents warrant.
Upon their arrival, firefighters had to employ extraction tools to cut open the twisted metal and offer an escape to the two victims trapped within. One individual was pronounced dead at the site, while the other was transported to a local hospital under the weight of injuries, the gravity of which remained undetermined.
