A man in his 60s has been fatally shot in a burglary incident in Miami that took a disastrous turn when he confronted the intruder in the presence of his young granddaughter, officials say. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Southwest Fifth Street, in what became a tragic Thursday morning for the local community.
Local law enforcement received reports of the altercation escalating to violence around 8:30 a.m., according to NBC Miami, with the grandfather attempting to protect his granddaughter during the burglary, but sadly, he was shot during the confrontation the suspect who then fled on foot, the perpetrator remains unidentified and at large.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Despite the attempts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by Local 10. The Miami Police Department is currently investigating the brutal occurrence, seeking any information related to the case, as well as the whereabouts of the assailant responsible for the deadly shooting.
