An illegal casino operation in Gwinnett County, Georgia, has been dismantled by the Gwinnett County Police Department, resulting in the arrest of 10 individuals earlier this week, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The venue in question, Sosa’s Billiards, situated on Norcross Tucker Road, came under scrutiny after a routine traffic stop in 2023 when a motorist indicated their departure from a local "casino."
"They stated they were leaving a nearby casino," Cpl. Juan Madiedo disclosed in an interview, revealing how the investigation initially took root. Undercover operatives managed to verify the gambling activities at Sosa’s Billiards, where they found poker for cash games in play, according to WSB-TV. The arrests include Steven Bae Kim, 66, from Duluth, alleged to be the business's owner, who faces charges of commercial gambling, keeping a gambling place, and gambling. Seth Abernathy, 40, from Auburn, purportedly an employee, was charged with commercial gambling.
During the raid, authorities also seized a variety of contraband. "There were a couple of guns seized, there were some drugs that were seized, and cash was also seized," said Cpl. Madiedo. The Gwinnet County Police emphasized the risks associated with illicit gambling, underscoring how such seemingly innocuous activities can spiral into violence – such as attempted robberies leading to injuries.
The two key figures arrested, Kim and Abernathy, have both posted bond. Nevertheless, the investigation remains active with additional arrests on the horizon. Individuals with knowledge pertinent to the case are encouraged to come forward. Gwinnett County Police have urged the community to reach out to its detectives at 770-513-5300 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 404.577.TIPS (8477) or via their website, for those who wish to potentially earn a cash reward for tips resulting in an arrest, and indictment.
