The city has seen a variety of crimes in May, ranging from retail theft to assault and DUIs. The incidents outlined detail a series of events that have led to multiple arrests and have punctuated the challenges faced by law enforcement, according to the latest police blotter released by the Hillsboro Police Department.

In one case, a male was arrested on a felony warrant amid additional charges when he was caught by loss prevention at Target allegedly attempting to abscond with unpaid merchandise. In a separate family dispute turned violent, a highly intoxicated individual attacked his brother for refusing to get more alcohol, which quickly resulted to an arrest. Two females were also detained after they allegedly attempted to nonchalantly walk out of Target with over $600 in goods.

Furthermore, DUII arrests were notably prevalent, with one adult male causing a collision and later providing a breathalyzer reading of .23% BAC, vastly exceeding the legal limit. An almost similar scenario occurred when a female, ostensibly looking for parking at an apartment complex, crashed into a grassy area; her BAC was recorded at .17% following her arrest for DUII.

Another disturbing event involved a male on TriMet property who, despite prior exclusion, refused to leave when asked. Officers were compelled to intervene again after he initially agreed to depart, only to be apprehended later on a valid felony warrant. Disturbances continued with a male causing a ruckus at Community Action, terrifying individuals seeking services there, which led to his arrest.

Notably, Officer Ruelas and his K-9 partner, Tuco, responded to assist in tracking down a suspect accused of assaulting another officer. The presence of the K-9 unit evidently influenced the suspect to reveal himself and surrender without further incident. In more alarming incidents, a male was booked for multiple crimes after threatening people with a knife, and another was detained after charging at a female victim with a metal pole in a threatening manner.

Other crimes included an individual who resisted arrest after a small fire near KeyBank and proceeded to spit and attempt kicks towards officers, while another suspect was booked after stealing cigarettes and illegally entering an employee-only area at a gas station.
