Tragedy struck in Houston this past Sunday night as police responded to a call that led to the discovery of two bodies, both with fatal gunshot wounds. The Houston Police Department (HPD) is now actively investigating the violent scene at 699 Franklin Street, where the man and woman were found dead around 6:35 p.m., as reported by the City of Houston's official news site. The victims' identities have yet to be officially verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division's own Detectives M. Althaus and E. Camacho are on the case and shared initial details. Officers who first arrived on the scene were confronted with the tragic sight of an unresponsive male victim in his 30s laying on the sidewalk adjacent to the Buffalo Bayou Trail. Shortly after, they came to soon discover a female in her 60s, also unresponsive and bearing similar fatal injuries, located on a stairwell that leads up to the busy intersection of Congress and Smith Streets.
Despite the efforts of the Houston Fire Department paramedics, both individuals were promptly pronounced deceased at their respective locations. What led to this double homicide remains unclear, as detectives continue to work tirelessly to piece together the events with no known motive or suspect description at this time. A call to action has been issued by HPD, urging anyone with any information relating to the case to step forward.
Community members with potential leads are strongly encouraged to reach out to the detectives at the HPD Homicide Division by calling 713-308-3600. In an effort to gather as much information as quickly as possible, authorities are also offering the option for individuals to remain anonymous by speaking to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. This plea was underscored in a statement available on the City of Houston's news release. Details surrounding this incident are still developing as the investigation continues to unfold.
