JetBlue is poised to begin daily flights between Boston's Logan International Airport and Presque Isle International Airport in Aroostook County, Maine. Starting from September 5, the new service will cater to the residents of Presque Isle, the broader northern Maine region, and parts of northwestern New Brunswick. An official announcement outlined the flight times, with departures from Boston scheduled between 8:45 and 10:10 p.m., and from Presque Isle slated between 5:45 and 7:10 a.m. the following days.
The company's decision to expand its network arrives as a bid to provide a dependable nexus for travel and commerce in areas often bereft of such connectivity. In the release captured by Boston.com, Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships for JetBlue, said, "We thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for selecting JetBlue for this new Essential Air Service route." He continued to passionately relay JetBlue's commitment to "offering northern Maine reliable, high-quality service."
Travellers from the region looking to land in Boston will find the new service particularly conducive for same-day travel. Moreover, the route allows for same-terminal connections to several in-demand locations, including destinations such as Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. This extension of service by JetBlue not only grants access to the heart of New England but effectively connects northern Maine and Canadian neighbors to a swath of the carrier's 75 nonstop destinations from Boston.
Presque Isle City Council Chair Kevin Freeman conveyed the local enthusiasm for the venture, as cited in a News Center Maine publication: "The City of Presque Isle and Aroostook County are pleased to begin a new chapter in airline service partnering with JetBlue." Freeman also mentioned the community's anticipation for "JetBlue's renowned innovation and creativity which will expand and grow air travelers' experiences in our region."
To mark this occasion and perhaps to get more flyers on board, JetBlue is offering a celebratory fare. A one-way ticket on this new route is currently advertised for $59, making the introductory phase financially appealing for those looking to explore the "stunning landscapes" of Aroostook State Park or engage with the "vibrant local culture" that northern Maine has to offer. Such promotional fares are available directly through JetBlue's website, as per Boston.com.
