Knoxville residents might want to keep their umbrellas handy as the week kicks off with a parade of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast laid out a pretty wet scenario for the region, marking today with a 60 percent chance of rain, mainly before 3 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to climb near a comfortable 79 degrees despite the largely gloomy skies, combining humidity levels, sitting at 100%, and making for a sticky situation. The current calm gave way to an east wind picking up at 5 to 10 mph before swinging southwest.
The wet weather pattern is looking to stick around into the evening with a lingering 30 percent shot of rain and electrical action before nightfall, then it eases off. Those heading out for the night can expect the lows to hover around a mild 63 degrees with calm winds returning.
Monday still threatens a 20 percent probability of showers come afternoon, though the morning may see patches of fog clearing up by 7 a.m. It leads into a partly sunny day and an expected high of 85, offering a brief reprieve before the cycle of thunderstorms may resume later in the week, as per NWS's latest update.
As we approach midweek, Wednesday is primed with a 70 percent likelihood that showers and storms reappear, especially after 2 p.m., and continue well into the evening. Whether the daytime provides enough of a break in the clouds to heat things up to its anticipated 86-degree peak remains to be seen.
The rest of the week doesn't promise much change, as sky-watchers can anticipate mixed chances for thunderstorms through Friday against a backdrop of sunny to partly sunny days, and nighttime lows averaging in the mid-60s. June is determined to show Knoxville a stormy face early in the month, and taking weather twists in stride is just going to be part of the week's routine.
