A driver has been taken into custody after his car plowed into the facade of a Lauderhill business Tuesday evening, triggering a wave of law enforcement and emergency response. According to NBC Miami, the crash occurred on Northwest 31st Avenue, where the Ovie Discount & Beauty Supply store suffered significant damage from the incident.
Lauderhill Police stated the driver, 51-year-old Alreegus D. Holmes, struggled to maintain control of his vehicle before it collided with the store. Holmes was arrested and faces multiple charges, including DUI, DUI with property damage, and driving with a suspended license,, jail records indicated. Fortunately, Lauderhill authorities reported no injuries stemming from the crash.
As events unfolded, a crowd gathered to witness the aftermath. Onlookers observed the commotion as emergency crews worked alongside local residents to board up the shattered storefront and secure the premises, a sight captured in video footage following the accident.
Additional charges for Holmes, as reported by Local 10 News, include possession of an open container while driving. Lauderhill police Lt. Antonio Gonzalez noted that Holmes was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Levy commented on the "significant structural damage" to the business but again confirmed, that no individuals were harmed. Jail records detail that as of Wednesday morning, Holmes was being held at the Broward County Main Jail awaiting his bond hearing.
