A vigilant act by a private security guard and a quick response from Boston police led to the arrest of a Leominster man and the recovery of a loaded firearm. According to a Boston Police Department report, Matiople Ayuel, 39, was taken into custody last night in the bustling area of Downtown Crossing.
The sequence of events began to unravel at approximately 6:59 PM when the security guard observed a Black male, clad in a blue top, accidentally drop an object that was quickly identified as a firearm. The guard did not hesitate to actively provide officers with a detailed description and the direction in which the suspect fled, ultimately assisting in the pinpointing of Ayuel in front of 85 Bedford Street. The Boston Police, already in the vicinity responding to another incident, swiftly executed a search and initiated an investigation.
Upon investigation, police retrieved a black semi-automatic Walther PPS .40 Caliber firearm snugly concealed within the suspect's attire, containing a magazine loaded with five rounds of ammunition. The fast-paced nature of this neighborhood and the conscientious observation of the security guard paved the way for this crucial discovery, and may potentially have averted a more grievous scenario.
Ayuel now faces several charges including Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License. He is set to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.
