As Litchfield Park residents have been observing, the construction on Desert Avenue is making strides toward a more navigable and aesthetically pleasing downtown area. The city's improvement project, focused on the revitalization of Litchfield Square, is progressing into its next phase. According to the City of Litchfield Park, the initial phase of the work on the west side of Desert Avenue is nearing its end.
City officials have announced that Phase 2 will kick off on June 17, switching the focus to the east side of Desert Avenue. Despite the closure to the east side driveways, the southbound traffic on Desert Avenue will still keep rolling, albeit restricted to one lane. Scheduled to commence the same week, contractors will start by remolding the north driveway that provides access to local establishments, including Ribbons Teahouse and Fringe Salon; with the work on south driveways meant to follow suit soon after.
This new phase brings with it some inconvenience, as drivers and patrons of nearby businesses will need to navigate around some restricted areas. The city has made clear that while driveways on the east side are closed, alternate driveways remain open. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction, the city has reassured, hoping to minimize the disruption for those on foot, as per the City of Litchfield Park.
