A 23-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman who was found dead in a vehicle on Hollywood Road, with her toddler in the backseat. Jamal Baker, the suspect in connection to the May 18 incident, was taken into custody on May 31, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. The woman, identified as Ne'Jah Cox, was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot while seated in the passenger side of the vehicle.
According to WSB-TV, police believe Cox was targeted directly and part of the incident was recorded on surveillance footage from a nearby store. The driver of the car, who remained unharmed, was present throughout the ordeal. The shooting took place near an apartment complex located on the 2500 block of Center Street NW, where three men were seen approaching the vehicle on foot and opening fire.
Baker is now facing multiple charges including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and cruelty to children in the second degree. Details from jail records, as mentioned by FOX 5 Atlanta, indicate multiple previous arrests for Baker, with prior charges that include gang association and violating probation, among other violent crimes. At this time, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
