An early Friday morning shooting in East Memphis has left a man critically injured after he was found with gunshot wounds at a gas station, according to the Memphis Police Department. The incident unfolded just before 6 a.m., where officers responded to Poplar Avenue and Perkins Extended and discovered the injured man who was then rushed to Regional One Health in critical condition, Local Memphis reported.
Investigations by the authorities indicate that the shooting occurred in the 4600 block of Spottswood Avenue, a location that's home to ATC Fitness center, which was found to have sustained damage, its windows shattered the aftermath is still visible, WREG noted. The scene was cordoned off with crime scene tape as detectives commenced their probe into the violent event.
Police have not released further details about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but they are actively seeking information from the public. They urge anyone who might have insights to contact CrimeStoppers and call (901) 528-CASH, as shared by FOX13 Memphis.
At the time of the second FOX13 Memphis crew's arrival, they reported a police scene at a Shell gas station, and their discovery of a window at the nearby gym echo the remnants of what appeared to be a morning marred by violence, but what remains unknown are the identities of both the shooter and the motive for why such a brazen act of violence might occur in what is often the quiet early hours before the rush of the day begins is only part of the larger puzzle law enforcement is earnestly trying to assemble.
