A 55-year-old man lost his life late Saturday night after being struck by a CSX freight train in East Nashville, police confirmed. The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department has been working diligently to contact the victim's relatives, informing them of the tragic accident that occurred near the McGavock Pike crossing, approximately half a mile to the north.
According to the police, the call came in around 9:30 p.m. The train's engineer managed to spot what was described as a shadow between the rails as the train rounded a curve at 30 mph. Tragically, by the time the shadow materialized into a person clad in dark attire lying on the tracks, it was too late for the train to come to a halt. The Nashville Metro Police Department, in a statement, revealed no indications of foul play at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not been released to the public, pending the notification of kin, as the department's chaplains are reaching out to the man's family.
