
A 6-year-old boy in Memphis is in critical condition after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday. The Memphis Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on the 2800 block of Spring Hill Drive, according to a release by Action News 5. The young child was quickly transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, where he remains in a critical state.
The circumstances leading up to the incident have not yet been disclosed, and the Memphis Police are conducting an ongoing investigation. Local Memphis reported that the wound was self-inflicted, implying that the firearm was somehow accessible to the young child.
"The child was taken to Le Bonheur hospital in critical condition," as FOX13 Memphis reported, but information regarding the response times or what interventions were necessary to sustain the child’s life are not clear.
