Andrew Floyd Rodriguez, 28, has been taken into custody for attempted felony murder after authorities say he stabbed another man multiple times at a 24 Hour Fitness in Miami Gardens. The incident, which occurred on May 9, led to the victim being found with multiple stab wounds including injuries to his left underarm, left forearm, and left buttock. He was subsequently airlifted to Aventura Hospital’s trauma unit for treatment.
According to an arrest report cited by WSVN, the confrontation at the gym was preceded by Rodriguez approaching the victim and making derogatory remarks about the victim's disabled daughter, allegedly stating, “You are weak just like your daughter.” Following this, a physical altercation commenced, during which time the victim realized he was bleeding and noticed a knife in Rodriguez's hand.
Reportedly, previous tensions existed between the two men as Rodriguez had accused the victim of attempting to have an affair with his girlfriend. The victim was familiar with Rodriguez from an earlier encounter at the gym. Surveillance footage from the gym confirmed Rodriguez entering the venue, retrieving a knife from his bag, and then engaging with the victim. This evidence has been instrumental in supporting the victim's account of the attack.
Rodriguez surrendered to police voluntarily, accompanied by his attorney, and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. During his interview post-arrest, he invoked his rights and refused to speak. Details about the case, including Rodriguez's surreptitious arming himself with a knife and the ensuing stabbing, aired in NBC6 report, highlighting the calculated nature of the attack. Officer Nilsson Herrera, who was recently graduated from the Miami Police Department, provided first aid to the victim until further assistance arrived.
