An accident involving a military vehicle on eastbound Interstate 580 near San Leandro caused significant traffic delays Friday afternoon. According to a CBS News San Francisco report, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. It resulted in the vehicle rolling onto its side near the 164th Ave./Miramar exit in Ashland, just outside San Leandro city limits.

The California Highway Patrol reported that soldiers were seen outside the overturned vehicle standing on the freeway's side. Following the accident, footage from the scene, which was broadcast by aerial cameras, appeared to show what may have been fuel or oil leaking from the disabled vehicle. At least one emergency vehicle was also seen arriving, with its presence further complicating traffic flow.

The official CHP - Hayward Facebook page provided an update stating that, luckily, no one was injured in the accident. Efforts to manage the incident included dispatching a tow truck, which was recorded righting the military vehicle around 3 p.m. As the clean-up operation progressed, it allowed for roadway clearing, enabling travel to resume in all lanes.

Traffic returned to normal flow after all lanes were reported to have been reopened by 4:35 p.m. even as residual delays continued to affect drivers in the area for a time following the re-opening. Those traveling through the region were advised to expect lingering traffic as conditions gradually returned to typical patterns post-incident.
