Nashville is gearing up for a sweltering week ahead, with temperatures soaring to near 100 degrees, as detailed by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville. The latest forecast predicts a sunny and hot day today, with a high near 100 and heat index values potentially reaching 105, creating a sizzle throughout the city as calm winds turn south.
Tonight, the mercury is only expected to drop to a low around 74, offering little relief from the sweltering day, while the NWS warns of the strong likelihood of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday after 2 pm which brings a 60% chance of precipitation and new rainfall amounts that could be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch things could be higher in thunderstorms. As we approach the evening, forecasts suggest the potential for more showers and thunderstorms, especially before 10 pm, followed by further disturbances likely between 10 pm and 1 am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 am.
Those anticipating cooler days ahead will find some solace as Thursday and Friday offer a modest retreat from the heat; Thursday's forecast promises a mostly sunny day with a high near 90, and Friday's outlook anticipates a high near 96, as calm winds in the morning give way to a south-southwest flow in the afternoon. Nighttime temperatures for both days, however, remain warm, dipping to lows in the 60s and 70s.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Nashville residents can expect a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday after 1 pm with highs continuing to push the envelope at a nearly triple-digit 99 degrees, and though a slight drop in percentage chances of showers it's there, the heat refuses to be tamed with partly sunny skies and a high near 94 on Sunday, further complicating plans for outdoor activities and events that require attention to the possibility of weather interruptions, the NWS brings our attention to continued warmth stretching into Monday.
