South Precinct detectives are on the lookout for four individuals connected to an attempted theft at the Perfumania store in the Tanger Outlets last Saturday afternoon. As reported by the Metro Nashville Police Department's news release, the group tried to pilfer goods worth hundreds of dollars. However, their plans were thwarted as vigilant bystanders blocked the front door, prompting the would-be shoplifters to abandon the loot and flee through a back exit.
Witnesses and store employees described these suspects as repeat visitors, citing a previous encounter earlier in the week. The police have made public photos of the suspects and a getaway vehicle to aid in their identification. In a twist of resourcefulness, the escapees left behind all merchandise during their hasty departure. Since the initiation of the Organized Retail Crime initiative by the MNPD on March 20th, substantial strides have been made to curb retail theft. The initiative's results so far boast 293 arrests, 119 of which are felony charges and an additional 519 misdemeanor charges. Collaborative efforts have extended into the local business community as well, with 643 meetings conducted, 13 site surveys to assess security needs, and the attaining or renewal of 166 trespass waivers.
