Metro Action Commission has started serving free breakfast and lunch to children at various summer camps, community programs, and other locations where the youth of Nashville congregate, according to a statement on the Metro Action Commission website.
These nutritious meals, which are available at 62 designated points across Nashville and Davidson County, are served sharp at 8 am and around noon. Through the warm months of June and July, young people can fill their bellies at no cost from Monday to Friday, stated the Metro Action site. While parents and their offspring can get a complete list of food locations sponsored by the agency by clicking “Free Meals for Youth” on their website, they must remember to bring no documentation to receive the meals.
But Metro Action isn't working alone in this fight against hunger. The agency has partnered with Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee, Metro Nashville Public Schools, and numerous YMCA Summer Camps, also providing free meal sites throughout Davidson County. To find all available locations, families can text "Food" to 877-877 or dial 1-866-3-HUNGRY for assistance.
The Metropolitan Action Commission, as noted on their site, stands as Davidson County's largest provider of summer meals, fed by the benevolence of federal funding via the National Summer Food Service Program from the USDA. Backed by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
