After a high-speed chase stretching 20 miles along Interstate 93, New Hampshire State Police brought a Vermont bank robbery suspect into custody on Monday. The pursuit began near Lincoln, New Hampshire, shortly after 4 p.m., when troopers spotted and attempted to pull over a blue 2013 BMW 550i—a vehicle reported stolen from Nashua the preceding day. Despite law enforcement's signals, the driver refused to stop, leading authorities on a chase that concluded in Campton, just short of the Plymouth town line.
The driver, allegedly involved in a robbery at the Passumpsic Bank in Newport, Vermont, earlier that Monday, was identified as 38-year-old Barry A. English Jr., from Nashua. During the robbery, English reportedly claimed possession of a weapon. Following the theft, looking for the suspect, New Hampshire State Police told NBC Boston "they began pursuing a vehicle on Interstate 93."
As a result of the capture operation, southbound traffic on I-93 had to be temporarily diverted. After negotiations, no injuries were reported. The details regarding charges English might face remained unspecified late Monday. The Boston Globe reported it was unclear if English had retained an attorney or when he would be arraigned.
An investigation into the chase and its connection to the bank robbery is ongoing, with New Hampshire State Police collaborating with authorities from Nassau and Newport. A State Police K-9 unit assisted in tracking and apprehending the suspect. Anyone with additional information related to the case has been urged to contact State Police Sgt. Stefan Czyzowski at 603-223-4381, as reported by NBC Boston.
