Chaos erupted in Maricopa on Friday morning after a reported hit-and-run incident led to a police pursuit and shooting. According to ABC15, officers from the Maricopa Police Department responded to a call at around 9 a.m. in the Desert Cedars neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect vehicle and tried to make contact with the three individuals inside.
The suspects fled, prompting a chase. Two of the suspects were apprehended swiftly, while a third was found in the backyard of a local resident, wielding a rifle. During the attempt to arrest the armed suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred. "The suspect was not struck and no officers were hurt during the incident," Maricopa PD officials said. The incident led to the recovery of two firearms.
This confrontation has been recorded as the 28th shooting involving law enforcement officials in the Valley by ABC15 so far this year.
Meanwhile, AZFamily reports this as the 15th instance outside of Maricopa County and the 42nd officer-involved shooting in Arizona to date.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office has taken up the investigation into the shooting. No injuries were reported among the officers or the suspects in this latest incident, according to officials
