A woman is presently fighting for her life following a shooting that occurred early Monday in North Memphis, according to authorities. The Memphis Police Department stated that they were called to the 800 block of Faxon Avenue around 5 a.m. in response to a prowler complaint. Once on the scene, they discovered a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, as reported by WREG.
Found in critical condition, the victim was quickly transported to Regional One Hospital. While the woman clung to life at the hospital, information about the suspect remained elusive, eluding the grasp of law enforcement, Action News 5 reported. The area, encompassing North Parkway between North Dunlap Street and Leath Street, was temporarily shut down to traffic for two hours due to the MPD investigation but has since been reopened.
Meanwhile, a semblance of normalcy returned to the neighborhood as the crime scene tape ceased to cordon off the intersection of N. Parkway and N. Dunlap Street after authorities finished their initial assessment of the scene. Details on the shooting are still scant, and the investigation into the incident continues. According to FOX13 Memphis, the adjacent areas were seen blocked off earlier in the day, as the MPD combed through a neighborhood adjacent to the crime scene, giving a glimpse into the thoroughness of the police's search for evidence.
Concurrently, the authorities are calling on the community for assistance. Anyone who might harbor knowledge concerning the incident has been urged to reach out. Individuals who can provide information that could lead to a resolution are encouraged to call Memphis CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
