An Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy was fatally shot this Saturday night after following a stolen vehicle in Detroit's east side, as confirmed by multiple sources. The incident took place in the vicinity of Park Grove Street and Schoenherr Road. ClickOnDetroit reported that the deputy, whose name has not been released, was tracking the vehicle when at least one occupant opened fire, causing fatal injuries to the officer.
No suspects have been taken into custody, and the details surrounding the shooting remain sparse. In a response to the tragedy, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter expressed his sorrow on social media. "I am heartbroken to learn of the shooting death of an Oakland county Sheriff’s deputy," Coulter said in a post quoted by WWJ Newsradio. Coulter urged the community to "Please keep him, his loved ones and his county colleagues in your heart today. I’ve been in contact with Sherriff Bouchard, and further details will come from his office."
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard is expected to provide more updates during a scheduled news conference. The sheriff's office had previously confirmed the deputy's death in a press release early Sunday morning, as noted by The Detroit News. The press conference is meant to shed light on the circumstances of the shooting, which until now have been mostly gleaned from unconfirmed news and social media posts.
