In a tragic occurrence on the Dan Ryan Expressway, two separate crashes have resulted in one fatality and two injuries, disrupting the stillness of Chicago’s nocturnal hours. CBS Chicago reports that the first incident, which happened just before the clock struck twelve on Tuesday, involved a red Honda colliding with the rear of a semi-truck near 47th Street, while the roads were wet from rain according to a detail obtained by ABC7 Chicago.
The aftermath was grave, the driver of the Honda was rushed to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries and the passenger not spared the mercilessness of the crash was taken to the hospital with serious injuries; traffic became a maze diverted to 55th Street during the cleanup and the road remained closed until it reopened around 6 a.m. State police continue their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this fatal encounter, the rain-slicked road possibly playing a subtle yet pivotal role in this narrative of loss.
The night’s tribulations didn't halt there, with the second crash occurring when a pedestrian found themselves in the path of a white Tesla within the express lanes, this time at 31st Street; the victim was attending to their injuries at an area hospital and, despite the severity of the occurrence, are expected to recover. CBS Chicago further notes, cooperation was extended by the Tesla’s driver to law enforcement, who are piecing together the details of this harrowing moment on the expressway.
