Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood again became a scene of gun violence Wednesday night when two women were shot, one fatally, near the area's 31st Street Beach. The Chicago Tribune reports that a 22-year-old woman sustained three gunshot wounds to her chest and later died at Insight Hospital. A second victim, a 20-year-old woman, was hit in the left thigh and is currently listed in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the gunfire erupted shortly after 10 p.m. on East 31st Street. As of now, no arrests have been made, and Area One Detectives are conducting an investigation. This tragic incident came on the heels of another recent shooting at 63rd Street Beach on Monday, which left three people injured, including a 14-year-old girl.
In response to the continuing violence, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced a press conference to discuss the expansion of the Emergency Supplemental Victims Fund, as noted by WGN-TV.
