The accident, involving a vehicle and pedestrian, occurred south of William Cannon Drive. As emergency teams worked to quickly respond, the southbound lanes were to remain temporarily closed, impacting traffic flow. Austin Transportation advised drivers to seek alternate routes while the blockage persisted. Details of the incident were initially scarce as APD did not immediately release further information about the crash.
In a tragic turn, Austin-Travis County EMS performed CPR on the stricken pedestrian, an adult whose identity has yet to be disclosed. Efforts persisted en route to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, but the individual was ultimately pronounced dead, as reported by KXAN. The accident prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities on the affected stretch of road.
An unanticipated complication arose when a CapMetro bus became stuck while attempting to turn around, creating a complete standstill by blocking all traffic lanes after 8 a.m. It took officials about half an hour to clear the bus from the roadway and reopen South Congress Avenue to the relieved public.
