The community of Powder Springs is grappling with an unsettling spike in homicides, according to local law enforcement. The Powder Springs Police Department cited a higher count of such incidents in 2024 thus far when compared to the combined total of the previous three years - a significant statistic for the small city with a population of less than 19,000, as indicated in a report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Adding to the city's concerns is the recent murder-suicide on Forest Hill Road that claimed the lives of 36-year-old Kalisha Seddens and 38-year-old Norotius Brown. FOX 5 Atlanta detailed an incident where the couple, engaged in an argument that turned fatal, were both found deceased, leaving behind their three children. The children, present during the event, were reported to have fled their home to a neighboring area for safety.
Capt. Jason Holcombe with the Powder Springs Police Department stressed the challenges of facing homicides that often involve younger individuals and even children utilizing "ghost guns." Holcombe said to FOX 5 Atlanta, "Kids are ordering parts for firearms online and they're assembling them themselves." These firearms lack serial numbers and are difficult to trace, he explained, complicating the efforts of law enforcement to track down the weapons.
As Powder Springs reels from its recent tragedy, the stories of those affected echo the unforeseen nature of the incident. Kalisha Seddens's brother, Marquis Seddens, recounted his disbelief and the void left in the family, telling FOX 5 Atlanta, "This was my sister, she’s an angel... this is crazy, this has hurt our whole family." Making a plea for mental health awareness and domestic violence, close friends and colleagues of Brown, described as having been a devoted family man, are urging others to proactively check in on each other.
The response from the entertainment community was also one of shock and sorrow. A statement from Supa Unit, issued after Brown’s passing, captured the sentiment by saying, "Here at Supa Unit, we are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Natorius 'DJ T Gutta' Brown and his wife." The loss was described as profound for both the brand and friends, emphasizing the critical need for mental health awareness and addressing domestic issues, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
