A deadly blaze engulfed a Ridgefield barn early Monday morning, taking the life of one individual and necessitating a swift response from local fire crews. The inferno, which was reported at 7:09 a.m., consumed a barn/outbuilding on Northwest 51st Avenue before spreading to nearby vehicles. Fire officials detailed that upon arriving at the scene, they were met with the structure "fully involved in flames," as reported by KGW.
Adjacent to the barn flames, several chickens were released from a coop by firefighters, having narrowly escaped the blaze soaring in the immediate vicinity of their enclosure. With the fire's swift advancement, crews were forced to combat the blaze externally, unable to enter the compromised structure. It wasn't until approximately 8:30 a.m. that firefighters were able to suppress the fire sufficiently to access the area where the victim was believed to be, ultimately discovering one person dead, according to KATU.
Earlier in the ordeal, a resident of the property suffered a medical emergency unrelated to the fire. The individual, treated by firefighters at the scene, was taken to the hospital around 8:19 a.m. for further medical attention. Despite the chaotic scene, firefighting units managed not only to quench the advancing flames but also to attend to the medical needs arising amidst the crisis.
Assistance for the tragic event was not solely from Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue. A unit from Fire District 6, AMR Ambulance, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Clark County Public Works were all pivotal in the response. In addition, Clark County Chaplaincy chaplains were present to provide support to the affected family and friends who, consumed by the fire, left to deal with the aftermath of the sudden loss.
